I disagree that the north fought because of slavery. Their goal was to preserve the union. Most people in the north didn’t really care about ending slavery, they just wanted it contained to the south and didn’t want any new territories becoming slave states.

Many Northerners looked at blacks as less than too. They weren’t treating blacks like equal citizens with full rights. As far as the civil war goes abolishing slavery was not the main goal.
